Music Doing Good with Instruments will grant instruments that were needed to sustain the orchestra program at Hastings High School. A total of 32 instruments will be delivered including violins, violas, digital keyboards, cellos, and upright basses valued at more than $11,000.
Music Doing Good with Instruments began with a single instrument donation that was redistributed back into the community to a deserving young student. Since 2013, Music Doing Good with Instruments has granted 184 free, gently-used instruments valued at $23,958 to students in need and schools wishing to create or maintain orchestra and/or band programs. The program has collected 205 instruments valued at $46,287 to be refurbished and redistributed in the community. A recent grant of 69 violins and violas was made with newly purchased instruments totaling $5,145. Music Doing Good granted 67 instruments to schools affected by Hurricane Harvey.
Music Doing Good is a nonprofit arts organization that inspires and transforms children’s lives through innovative, music-based programming and performance experiences. The organization provides musical outreach in the form of an instrument granting program, music scholarships, and an after-school fine arts enrichment program for students of Title 1 schools. In 2017, Music Doing Good launched a College-Bound Scholarship Program whereby 10 local music students will go to College/University starting fall semester.
